Telling a question which page answers it

A question is checked against the AI engines whatever happens. Recording a page tells the tracker which page to credit, and it is what makes "your page is a source" and "named you" possible to say.

Changing the page

Use Change on the question page and pick another page, or paste an address. The new page is watched from the next check. The citation history already earned stays on the question, because the question earned it.

What we check when you paste an address

We fetch the address to confirm it is live and public. We do not check that it answers the question; that is your call. Pages on your site and on any associated host you have added (a help subdomain, say) are offered in the picker.

Addresses that are refused, and why

• Your homepage. For many businesses it is the page AI cites, and it stays a fact on the row. Recording it as the page would tell the tracker the question is covered, so the page that could get you named by name never gets written.
• A page that lists other pages, such as a blog index or a category.
• A page on a different site.
• A page set to noindex. No engine can use it. Remove the noindex, then record it.

Pages we record for you

Each day the tracker looks for every open draft at its own address on your site and records it when found. When a check finds AI citing exactly one page of yours for a question, that page is recorded too, except your homepage. A page that has moved to a new address on your site is followed. A page that answers with "not found" is left alone until you say where it went.
