Making a guide

How a guide is written, checking it, filling the details only you know, and approving it.

On Leads, press Make my guide. On Growth you pick the topic first. Writing takes about a minute, and the steps tick off as it goes.

What it is written from

Your pages on that topic, the questions your readers ask about it, and what you have told us on Your business. The format follows what those readers are deciding: comparing options gets a decision guide, getting started gets a starter kit, looking things up gets a reference chart.

We never invent a price, a rebate, a brand or a number. Where the guide needs something only you know, like your usual price range, it leaves a highlighted blank for you to fill.

Checking it

The check page shows the guide as its real pages: the cover, the two pages inside and the last page about calling you. Click any text to change it. The rail beside it lists the details only you can add, the title options, the cover and your colours.

  • Title: three options built from your readers' real questions, or write your own. A title is a name, like "The Heat Pump Quote Decision Guide", never a question.
  • Cover: a pattern in your colours, or your logo from Your business.
  • Colours: pick a swatch or your own. We check the text stays readable on them, and your colours apply to every guide and to the form.

Your contact details on the last page come from Your business each time the PDF is printed, so keep them up to date there.

Approving it

Approve stays locked until every blank is filled. Approving prints the PDF, about the time it takes to read this. If a page runs past the bottom, we stop and tell you which one, so you can shorten something on it.

After that, the PDF is yours to download whatever you do next, and Put it on your site is the next step.

Changing it later

Open it from Leads and choose Edit. Changes to the words are free. When you approve again we reprint the PDF, and every reader's download link opens the new one, including links in emails already sent.
